About Kainku

Fabric, described as it is

We built Kainku because buying cloth online so often feels like guesswork. The photograph looks good, but the width, the weight, and the origin are rarely stated.

What we do

Kainku is a catalogue of Indonesian textiles sold by the metre. Every listing states the usable width in centimetres, the weight in gsm, the fibre content, and the region the motif comes from.

Each fabric is shown in three views: how it drapes, a macro crop of the weave, and a folded stack. The point is simple — you should be able to judge both the scale of the motif and the texture before you order, not after the parcel arrives.

How we work

Four things we hold to

No grand promises — just working habits you can check for yourself on any product page.

Origin, stated

Every fabric names the city and province its motif comes from. Where we do not know the origin, we do not invent one.

Measurements, given

Width in centimetres, weight in gsm, and the cutting increment in metres. All of it is written down before you add anything to the cart.

Priced by the metre

Prices are always shown per metre, with no charges appearing at the last step. Shipping only appears once you have chosen a service.

Care instructions

Each fabric carries washing and storage notes matched to its fibre content and the way it was dyed.

Progress

How Kainku came together

  1. Stage 1

    Assembling the catalogue

Compiling motifs from across the archipelago together with their technical characteristics: width, weight, and fibre content.

  2. Stage 2

    Building the viewing system

Creating three standard views for every fabric so buyers can compare motif scale fairly from one product to the next.

  3. Stage 3

    Preparing the ordering flow

Designing a cart and checkout that work in metres, including per-product cutting increments and minimum order lengths.

  4. Next

    Payment and inventory integration

Connecting a real payment gateway, stock management, and couriers. This work is tracked in TODO.md in the repository.

How far along is this site? This is a demonstration build. The catalogue, cart, and checkout flows work fully on the interface side, but they are not yet connected to a payment gateway, an inventory system, or a courier. No payment is processed and no order is actually dispatched.

Sample data. This catalogue is a demonstration build. Prices, stock levels, and lead times shown on the site are illustrative figures, not a live price list. No payment is processed.
