Four ways cloth is made

Batik resists dye with wax, tenun builds the pattern from the threads themselves, songket floats a supplementary thread across the surface, and jumputan binds and stitches the cloth before dyeing.

Fabric anatomy

Reading the product details

Four numbers that decide whether a fabric suits your project.

Close-up of the weave of Parang Barong Batik fabric
01
Usable width
Measured in centimetres from selvedge to selvedge. It determines how many pattern pieces fit side by side, which directly changes the total metres you need to buy.
02
Weight (gsm)
Grams per square metre. A low number means light and fluid; a high number means thicker and more structured. Shirts are usually comfortable between 120 and 160 gsm.
03
Fibre content
Cotton breathes and is easy to care for. Silk is lighter with a natural sheen. Rayon drapes softly. Metallic thread adds shine but needs gentler handling.
04
Making technique
This decides how the surface reads: wax resist produces crisp motif outlines, while ikat weaving gives the motif edges their characteristic feathering.

How ordering works

From choosing to dispatch

Four steps, with nothing appearing at the last minute.

  1. Choose the cloth

Compare motifs across three views: how it drapes, a macro crop of the weave, and a folded stack.

  2. Set the length

Adjust the length in half-metre steps. The total updates as you change it.

  3. Confirm the order

Fill in the address, pick a shipping service, and review the summary before you commit.

  4. Cut and dispatched

The cloth is cut to your ordered length and sent with the service you selected.
